STEVENS POINT, Wis (WSAU) The new leader of AMVETS - one of the nation's largest veterans organizations - is from Stevens Points. He's 69-year-old Duane Miskulin. He's a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, where he served in Turkey at a communications post that decoded classified messages from overseas.
Miskulin was appointed national commander during the AMVETS convention in New Orleans. He had led Post 10-51 in Stevens Point, where he's been a member for 19 years.
Miskulin says better mental health services for veterans is one of his national goals.
